The Truth About Gutters in The Northwest

While everyone searches for a solution to the daunting task of cleaning gutters, the truth is that there is not one in the Northwest. Many companies have developed new gutter systems that role leaves off the gutters with a rounded edge while they still allow Fir and Pine needles to enter the gutters which still clog the downspouts and require cleaning the gutters. These style gutters are not recommended where there are Fir or Pine trees. Others offer gutter covers or screens that clog up with debris while still requiring cleaning. If not cleaned regularly, micro screens clog up with dirt and debris allowing water to freeze atop the screen in the winter months which allows water to then just flow over the screen and roll off the roof. While there is still a task at hand with gutter screens, we find it the lesser of maintenance task involved with the most benefit for the money. While it seems, you’ve wasted money on yet another failed solution. If you weigh out the benefits you may find it worth it as we do. Yes, once or twice a year you will need to go on the roof and blow any debris off them with a leaf blower (recommended) or wash them down with a water hose. The effort is still far less than cleaning out your gutters. Additionally, you will avoid having debris going into your downspouts and clogging them. This requires additional effort to take them apart and get the clogs out. A clogged down spout can trap water in the gutter adding additional weight which can cause your gutters to fall off the facia. This can not only incur additional cost but can in fact be dangerous should anyone be under it when it fell. If you should have storm drains where your rainwater is draining underground, debris can clog them underground thus requiring jetting to get the clogs free. All in all, we recommend gutter screens over all other options. There will still be necessary maintenance as with anything in this world today but the benefits far outweigh anything else.
